What does ASHA-SUPERVISION say?
ASHA establishes standards for supervision of Clinical Fellows, students, and support personnel. Supervisors must hold current CCC (Certificate of Clinical Competence) and have appropriate training in supervision. The supervisor-supervisee relationship must be clearly defined, with documented goals and expectations. Supervisors must provide direct observation, feedback, and mentoring. For Clinical Fellows, a minimum amount of direct and indirect supervision is required during the Clinical Fellowship year. Support personnel (SLP Assistants) must work under the direction and supervision of a certified SLP, who remains responsible for all aspects of client care. Supervision must be sufficient to ensure quality of services and protection of client welfare.
