What does ASHA-CONFIDENTIALITY say?

Speech-language pathologists and audiologists must maintain strict confidentiality of all client information. Per Rules O and P of Principle I: individuals shall protect the confidentiality and security of records of professional services provided, research and scholarly activities conducted, and products dispensed; access to these records shall be allowed only when doing so is legally authorized or required by law; and disclosure of confidential information about persons served shall be allowed only when doing so is legally authorized or required by law. Practitioners must comply with HIPAA and FERPA as applicable. Electronic records must be secured with appropriate safeguards.
