ASHA-EVIDENCE — ASHA Evidence-Based Practice
What does ASHA-EVIDENCE say?
ASHA defines evidence-based practice (EBP) as an approach in which current, high-quality research evidence is integrated with practitioner expertise and the client's preferences and values. The three components of EBP are: (1) best available research evidence, including systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, and clinical studies; (2) clinical expertise, including the clinician's knowledge, judgment, and critical thinking; and (3) client perspectives, including values, preferences, cultural background, and individual needs. Per Rule L of Principle I, CCC holders shall use independent and evidence-based clinical judgment, keeping paramount the best interests of those being served. Per Rule C of Principle II, individuals shall engage in lifelong learning applicable to their professional activities and skills.
