What does ASHA-SCOPE-SLP say?
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are professionals who engage in professional practice in the areas of communication and swallowing across the life span. The scope of practice includes, but is not limited to: speech sound production; resonance; voice; fluency; language (comprehension and expression); cognition; feeding and swallowing; auditory habilitation/rehabilitation; communication modalities (including augmentative and alternative communication); and social aspects of communication. SLPs serve individuals, families, groups, and the general public through a broad range of professional activities including screening, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, counseling, collaboration, documentation, and education/training. Practice settings include healthcare facilities, schools, private practices, universities, corporate settings, and telepractice environments.
