What does AOTA-TELEHEALTH say?

AOTA supports the use of telehealth as a service delivery model for occupational therapy when clinically appropriate. Telehealth services must meet the same ethical and quality standards as in-person services. Per Standard 6B, practitioners must maintain privacy and truthfulness in delivery of occupational therapy services, whether in person or virtually. Per Standard 5A, practitioners must keep and maintain required credentials in all work settings, including virtual settings. Key considerations include obtaining informed consent specific to telehealth (Standard 4D), ensuring technology meets privacy and security requirements (Standard 6A), complying with state and federal regulations, and assessing whether telehealth is appropriate for the specific client and intervention.
