What does AOTA-ETHICS-COMMISSION say?
The AOTA Ethics Commission (EC) promotes and maintains professional conduct in all occupational therapy roles. Key functions: (1) Develops and revises the AOTA Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and submits revisions to the Representative Assembly for approval. (2) Reviews existing and proposed Association documents for consistency with the Code from an ethical perspective. (3) Informs and educates members and consumers regarding the Code. (4) Serves as a resource for interpretation of the Code. (5) Issues advisory opinions on the interpretation and application of the Code as well as ethical trends. (6) Describes roles of regulatory agencies (NBCOT, State Regulatory Boards) that oversee OT services. (7) Provides ethics workshops at AOTA conferences and continuing education products on ethics. (8) Investigates complaints of alleged Code violations by AOTA members. The EC consists of practice representatives, education representatives, OTA representatives, public members, and a chairperson, each serving multi-year terms.
