What does AOTA-SUPERVISION say?

AOTA establishes guidelines for supervision in occupational therapy. Occupational therapists (OTs) may supervise occupational therapy assistants (OTAs), students, and aides. The level of supervision required depends on the practitioner's experience, the complexity of services, and state or federal regulations. OTAs require supervision by an OT for all aspects of service delivery. Per Standard 5F, all duties delegated to other occupational therapy personnel must be congruent with their credentials, qualifications, experience, competencies, and scope of practice. Per Standard 5G, supervision must be provided in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Supervisors must ensure that supervised personnel are competent, that services meet quality standards, and that client welfare is protected.
